Saturday the 19th was my sister-in-law's birthday. Our family met me with boggled eyes and comments that I was ready to pop. I feel like my baby overheard the chisme and questions of, “Where’s Layla? When will she get here?” Late July, I was feeling big, sweaty, and so over it.
That night after everyone had gone to sleep, I tried to bounce that baby out on a yoga ball. Figure 8 hip swirls. Spinning babies circuit.
When I woke up the next day with light cramps, at 6 am after a full night’s rest, I knew it was going to be a good day.
I loved getting to have quiet time at home before everyone woke up. I relaxed in the warm tub. I texted my husband that it was Layla’s birthday so he would see it when he woke up. He was surprised but calm.
My in-laws showed up with my nephew to help entertain my son. My husband made breakfast for everyone, and I was left to be in my own world.
I walked around the block to get labor moving, leaning in with every contraction.
Between 11 and 12 we were advised to come into The Birth Center. My son was definitely picking up on my energy as it was getting harder not to vocalize through the waves. I was happy to have somewhere else to go to just focus on having my baby and not stress my son.
Things really picked up once we got there. I enjoyed the tub so that I could grip the sides and really lean into the waves. I had a virtual doula and she mentioned the midwife and assistant were very kind in moving her around the room as she followed me. She said they really honored my experience.
I felt like I needed to move to the bed. Before I could even get there, I leaned over and literally felt my daughter drop down into my hips. You’re overwhelmed with the sensation and, “What do I do?” knowing there is only one thing to do: push.
We were only at The Birth Center for an hour and a half before Layla was born. I could not have asked for more from her birth experience. It was an absolute dream, and she is an absolute dream.
