I delivered my first baby at the hospital so once I was pregnant with my second, I knew immediately I wanted to have my care with The Birth Center now that it was open.
My first baby came 9 days early but this pregnancy, baby girl wasn’t ready until 6 days late! As each day passed and at each appointment, I wrestled with whether I wanted to do a membrane sweep or any other labor-inducing methods but I kept deciding no, she’ll come when she’s ready and all of the midwives completely respected and supported my decision.
At 40+5, contractions started rolling in at 11:30 pm with them picking up until I felt like I needed to go to The Birth Center around 3 am. I learned I was at 7 cm and had a little bit to go. Jamie quickly realized that baby girl was “OP”/sunny side up which is why I was feeling so much pressure, but I was able to labor in the tub for most of the time which was so nice.
After some time in the tub, Jamie asked me to move to the toilet to work her magic on getting baby to move down. Once she did, it was sweet relief and soon I was at a 10! My water broke soon after and I was able to lay on my side to push baby out. Jamie worked her magic again helping baby girl reposition and she was born at 6:24 am, only 3.5 hours after arriving at The Birth Center and after only 15 minutes of pushing.
I’m so grateful for The Birth Center and their support throughout my pregnancy and my birth. The peacefulness after baby was born to just soak up all that had happened and then head home to wake up our oldest daughter when we got back was so wonderful.
I have a distinct memory in the tub of seeing my doula, Stephanie, the nurse, Grayson, and Jamie, the midwife, all sitting around the edge of the tub with me worshipping to the song “Oceans” by Hillsong United. It is such a sweet reminder to me of the Lord’s providence over our lives, how He gave me the exact people at The Birth Center I needed to bring baby girl into this world.
